Being involved in a serious, multiple car accident and luckily not being hurt, or just unfortunately being on the scene after an accident has occurred it’s imperative that you know exactly what to do in order to limit the potential fatalities. Being able to administer emergency first aid to the victims is paramount to their survival rate but before you even think about helping anybody it is essential you make the crash scene safe. Don’t put your own life in danger from the threat of faster cars by making other motorists aware of the accident and keeping the scene safe will also protect the injured passengers.
If you have been lucky enough to have attended and qualified from any Emergency First Aid Training Courses then you will certainly be in a position to help some of the casualties while also making sure the Emergency Services are called to the scene. Prioritise and treat any of the injured passengers in order of severity of their injuries, making sure to relay to the Ambulance crew the nature and complexity of all those needing medical attention.
Keep calm at all times and organise other passers-by or non-injured passengers so that as much assistance as possible is given to any of the seriously injured. Make sure you speak to all the people involved and keep them informed of the arrival of the Emergency Services as well as relaying any relevant information to the emergency operator.
