A Family Break in the City of Chester

The city of Chester is a great place if you are looking for an interesting and fun filled family break this summer. With plenty of history and also lots of local attractions there is plenty to suit everyone.

Of course, one of the best known attractions in Chester is Chester Zoo. With animals large and small from elephants and big cats to a variety of reptiles and birds, this is the perfect trip for nature lovers.

There is also plenty of history to explore around Chester – the Roman amphitheatre is a well known surviving monument of the days of Roman occupation of Britain and a great place to visit to get an idea of what went on in these places.

For more recent history, you can visit the fascinating Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, in nearby Nantwich. With interactive exhibits, this is a great place to take older children to teach them about the cold war and the preparations for nuclear war in the United Kingdom.

On sunny days, pack up a picnic and take it to the banks of the River Dee where you can sit and watch the river, or head to Delamere Forest for a walk.

There are lots of great places to stay nearby too – for those who like a bit of luxury, look for places like this Chester luxury hotel, or alternatively search for an Airbnb in a historic house or a rural retreat.
